Dallas Cowboys Offensive Tackle, La’el Collins, is making sure 100  families in need will have a Christmas this year. The Former LSU Captain is spreading holiday cheer in both Baton Rouge and the Dallas Fort Worth Area.

A Star In The Making

Coming out of high school, Collins was touted as one of the best offensive linemen to ever come out of the state of Louisiana. After graduating from Redemptorist High School, where he earned  All-American honors from The Associated Press, he attended LSU where he became a three-year starter. During his time as a Tiger, he racked up over 2500 snaps and over 220 knockdowns in his career. His senior season, he was named the Jacobs Blocking Trophy winner, an award that goes to the best offensive lineman in the SEC conference.

On May 7th, 2015  Collins was signed by the Cowboys where he has played the last six seasons.

Making a List and Checking It Twice

This month Colins has worked to ensure that families who might struggle to put gifts under the Christmas tree have the opportunity to experience a great Christmas.

Colins, along with other Cowboy stars, raised money through a bowling fundraiser in which all the proceeds would go to help families in need. The money was used to provide a $250 gift card to 80 families to check off their Christmas lists. He also provided a shopping spree for 20 kids from the local Boys and Girls Club.

Collins told the Dallas Morning News that he was inspired by events in his own life to give back to the community.

When he was a kid, he was the beneficiary of a local toy drive and he never forgot the impact it had on him.

“They’ll remember it forever because I know I remembered when I was as a kid,” Collins said.

The Gift that Keeps on Giving

It’s always great to see players giving back, especially during the holidays. Collins is a perfect example of how you never know how many people you can inspire with just one act of kindness. It can really become the gift that keeps on giving.

From everyone here at Greater Than The Game, we are wishing you and your family a very Merry Christmas and a happy and healthy New Year!
