The Bionic Man: The Legendary Career and Comeback of Tommy John
On the first episode of season 5 of the Greater Than Game Podcast, we sit down with a baseball legend, Tommy John!
Tommy John by the numbers
In 26 MLB seasons, John won 288 games, recorded 188 no-decisions, and threw 162 complete games. As one of the most dominant pitchers of his era, John was named to four All-Star teams and appeared in four World Series.
The Bionic Man
In 1974, he made history, revolutionizing baseball forever when he became the first person to undergo an experimental surgery after a UCL injury left his pitching days in question. The surgery, now known as Tommy John surgery, was a success, and he returned to the mound, pitching another 15 seasons. In the Episode, John takes us through his approach to the game, his groundbreaking recovery, and the advice he would give to others who are facing a daunting injury process.
