At 41 years old, Marcedes Lewis continues to suit up in the NFL at a position defined by
constant collisions and short careers. His longevity isn’t about chasing one more catch or
contract. It’s about discipline, adaptability, and a mindset rooted in purpose principles that
Lewis believes extend far beyond football.

Built To Last

Lewis’ journey began in Long Beach, California, where football provided structure and
direction. A standout at Long Beach Poly High School and later at UCLA, he was selected in
the first round of the 2006 NFL Draft by the Jacksonville Jaguars. Over 12 seasons in
Jacksonville, Lewis established himself as one of the league’s most complete tight ends,
combining physical blocking with reliable hands. He earned a Pro Bowl selection in 2010
and finished his Jaguars career with more than 5,000 receiving yards and 40 touchdowns.
As the league evolved and teams got younger, Lewis evolved with it.
Reinventing His Role
Rather than fading out, Lewis embraced reinvention. During his time with the Green Bay
Packers (2018–2022), he transitioned into a blocking-first role and became one of the most
respected veteran leaders in the locker room. Later, with the Chicago Bears, his value
showed less in box scores and more in preparation, accountability, and setting the standard
for younger teammates. In June, during a grueling offseason workout, he shared a video that reflected the standard he lives by year-round. The message was simple, but powerful:

“Discipline is the purest expression of self-love.”

Making History in Denver

In October 2025, Lewis signed with the Denver Broncos’ practice squad during his 20th
NFL season, a milestone nearly unheard of for a skill position player.
Head coach Sean Payton, reflecting on Lewis’ rare blend of age and ability,
told reporters “I think when he’s 55, he’s going to be able to block the D-gap.”

That line captures Lewis’ evolving role. Once known primarily for athleticism and
receiving, but he has now mastered the gritty fundamentals of blocking. that extend
careers and shape winning teams.
Lewis himself reflected on how this skill set was instilled early on:

“There’s a lot of people that can catch the ball and run… you want to play for a
long time? When you slow down, you’ll still be able to block, because your
technique is really good.”
His willingness to learn and adapt has helped him remain valuable in every locker room
he’s entered.

Greater Than the Game

Lewis’ impact extends well beyond the field through the Marcedes Lewis Foundation, which
he founded in 2009. The foundation helps cover registration fees and equipment costs for
youth who otherwise couldn’t afford to participate in sports.

The foundation’s ultimate goal is to one day create a scholarship that will be able to send a
child to college and fully financially support them through school.

Marcedes Lewis’ career is more than an anomaly, it’s a blueprint. By adapting his role,
staying disciplined, and investing in others, he has shown that greatness isn’t defined by
age, stats, or spotlight.
At 41, Lewis isn’t just still playing football. He’s proving that when purpose leads the way,
impact can last far longer than the game itself.
